A Walk In The Rain

I woke to the gentle sound of a steady rain this morning.  The soft warmth of my bed tempted me to linger for awhile, but as I lay there considering the day, it occurred to me to take a walk in the rain.  I don't remember the last time I took a walk in the rain on purpose.  Sure, I've ventured out in rainy weather to get from one place to another, but I might have to go back to my high school days to find a time when I chose to do so.

The weather this week has been perfect for walks-- a crisp, light freshness to the air, the leaves on the cusp of change.  So gentle after the long suffocating heat of summer.

I enjoyed my walk.  The neighborhood blanketed me with quiet, providing the gurgle of drainpipes on houses and the soft hiss of misting rain as nature's melody. Peace enveloped me, and I found myself remembering a day in my fifteenth year when friends and I walked downtown and got caught in a downpour.  Rather than duck for cover, we danced through the streets singing silly songs like:

It's raining, it's pouring
or
I'm singing in the rain

We laughed out loud and called to people on their porches, announcing the obvious, "It's raining!"

Where did that girl go?  Somewhere along the line I began to worry about the delay rain caused in traffic or what it was going to do to my hair.  Rain is a blessing from God, and I tend to forget that crucial point, but I'll bet our farmers don't.

I heard a woman speak once about the shifting seasons and the weather.  She reminded us that above the rain clouds, the sun still shines.  A simple thought, but one I never truly considered before I heard her speak that day.  Today, of course, I didn't mind that the sun hides behind the clouds. The cool breezes and tiny droplets of life didn't dampen my spirits but lifted me in joy.

Where have you found joy among the clouds?

I bet most of us have had a few, "Where did that girl go?" moments. But, if we still recognize her, that's a start--more than some have, right?

I love walking, singing, and dancing in the rain. Glad you had such a great morning. :)
I took my dogs out for a walk this morning and it was delightful. Except for the doggie smell when I came back.
Susan, I guess we wouldn't be normal without a few of those moments would we?

Carole, the dog wasn't happy that I didn't take him, but he would've walked me, not me walk him. Then there is that wet dog smell. Phew!

Love your new site! And yes, I, too have a hard time finding that carefree girl of years past. I miss her...

Keep up the good work!
